Congratulations Boyd Willat
On May 18th , 2007 Boyd made it to his 16th Birthday!
On this day he earned his Private Pilot Glider rating, soloed 6 Tailwheel Aircraft and took one of his favorite teachers for a ride in a glider as his first passenger.
The morning began early at 0830 taking his check ride with Polly Ridgway, FAA Designated Examiner. Also observing was McDonald Boyd, FAA Inspector. The ground lasted 4 1/2 hours and then 3 flights in the SGS 2-33

The the winds started in a crosswind! Once around the pattern in his brother Garret's 1947 Cessna 140 with his dad and then his first solo in an Airplane!

A couple of circuits in the Cessna 180 and a solo pattern.

A Pattern in both of the PA18-180 Cubs and a ground check in the single seat PA25-235 Pawnee's then a solo flight including stalls steep turns in Both of our Pawnees.

This made a total of 6 tailwheel aircraft soloed. A Cessna 140, a Cessna 180, 2 PA 18-180's (SuperCubs), & 2 PA 25-235's (Pawnee). Then we all flew to Temecula for Birthday dinner and flight back. An exhausting but rewarding day!!
On his 14th Birthday Boyd set a world record of soloing 23 gliders!! To see that story go to: http://www.skysailing.com/pages/boydsolo.htm
